Music: The Mood Lifter

Reading an article on exercise by Eloise King in the Body + Soul (March 27, 2011) I was interested to learn …

The right playlist has the power to calm, motivate and reduce anger.

Louise Miles, president of the Australian Music Therapy Association, says music works by turning on multiple areas of your brain: “It has the power to access emotion, stimulatememory, affect your physiology and change your thinking patterns if you’re exposed to it over a period of time”.

“If you want to rev yourself up, the pop/rock genre is good because it’s up-tempo and easy to find lyrics that involve having a good time”, Miles says.  Mainstream pop/rock music will get you ready and high-energy tunes will help you exercise.

Did you know?  Studies show that patients who listen to music during and after surgery recover faster that those who don’t.

The music used in Jacki’s Aerobic Dancing classes certainly effects your mood, and whatever troubles you have when you first walk into class, it is not possible to worry and dance at the same time!
